Baugh to head Chartis European ops

LEX Baugh, chief executive of Chartis UK, has been promoted to oversee the group’s operations in Continental Europe and the EU.

In the newly created role, Baugh, the winner of last year’s Insurance Day London Market Awards’ Achiever of the Year, will take responsibility for Chartis Insurance UK Limited, Chartis Insurance Ireland Limited and Chartis Europe SA.

His promotion will “facilitate a pan-European solution for the preparation of Solvency II”, Chartis said.

Meanwhile the move has prompted some other changes within Chartis.

James Shea, currently regional president for Chartis CECIS (Central Europe and Commonwealth of Independent States), takes over responsibility for the UK operations as managing director of Chartis UK.

And Julio Portalatin, currently regional president for Chartis Europe will be taking up the new role of president of the Emerging Markets Region, including Chartis’ international operations in Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) including Russia, Turkey, and other Central European countries that are not members of the European Union.
