First-quarter figures show scars of record cat impact
Cat losses cost AIG $1.7bn during the first quarter but the group managed to offset most of the damage through a $1.1bn valuation gain on American International Assurance securities and a $744m increase in the fair value of its interest in Maiden Lane III, the vehicle set up to buy some financial protection that AIG had previously provided.
