NY Fed criticised over AIG bailout
THE New York branch of the Federal Reserve pushed through the bailout of troubled insurer AIG in late 2008 without negotiating a better deal with AIG’s counterparties on credit default swaps and other derivatives, according to an audit by Neil Barofsky (pictured), the special inspector general for the Treasury Department’s Troubled Asset Relief Programme (TARP).
